Cheryl's Tablet PC Diary - Day 14

About Cheryl Wester

Cheryl is a high school teacher that recently won a Tablet PC.  This is the beginning of her diary based on using the Acer Tablet PC she won.

Day Fourteen with my Tablet PC (Week 14?)

I have had my Acer since November and would find it difficult to part with. I love how small it is and how easy it is to do so many things on. Im definitely glad that it is a convertible as I use the keyboard as much as the handwriting technology! Every day I find new ways to use it.

I have really come to like the journal feature. Im treating it like a diary and it is nice to be able to write my thoughts and ideas down as they come to me. My father is very ill and this aspect has been a blessing as Ive been able to express my feelings and myself whenever the mood strikes.

I was on vacation recently and really enjoyed the Zinio Reader. I downloaded several magazines and enjoyed being able to write on them, highlight, and view them at my leisure. They were very easy to read when in portrait mode. Another trick I learned is to use Kinkos to do my downloading! I have snail Internet at my home and due to my location Im stuck with it. The magazines are large and take forever to download at home. Kinkos offers the use of their high speed Internet at no charge. I was traveling, found a Kinkos, and downloaded my favorite magazines in just a few minutes. I wish more places offered this. Believe me, I use them for all my copying needs. It is a great way for them to obtain customers and offer a useful service. While at Kinkos I also downloaded the latest Windows updates-again something that is not fun on snail Internet!

I have become use to the small keyboard and find that my accuracy is increasing. My tablet has become my computer of choice! I do wish the sound were a little louder though. Listening to anything almost always requires my headset.

I see so many uses for this in the education market-both as a teacher and for my students. It would be great if I could issue one to each of my students and have them do all their work from all their classes on them. I think they would really see how important technology is and how it applies to all aspects of life. How cool it would be to connect wirelessly to the web and have an exchange of ideas with other students, search the Internet for facts and information, and key reports and ideas as they come to them. I think the new Microsoft One Note would quickly become one of their favorite features. I wonder if there are any grants for this?

In the next few days I plan to install the new Office Beta on my Tablet. I will be trying out Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and One Note to see how they work. Ill let you know how I do.
