Cheryl's Tablet PC Diary - Day 1

About Cheryl Wester

Cheryl is a high school teacher that recently won a Tablet PC.  This is the beginning of her diary based on using the Acer Tablet PC she won.

Day One with my Acer Tablet PC

This is very different than I expected. It is a good thing that I use a Pocket PC as it made my transition to pen computing a lot easier. I feel that people without this advantage will have a lot harder time becoming accustomed to the different features.

Straight out of the box it was easy to setup. It went through the standard XP setup and asked if I wanted to network and setup the Internet. Since I was at a hotel at the time I skipped this feature. I rushed to setup, without reading the directions, so when it came up with installing the smart card I was clueless as to what it was talking about. I skipped that and Im not sure if I will install it or not. Further research told me that it was to secure your information. Since I dont need to secure my data Im not sure if it is worth the hassle of having the card with me or not.

At the launch I was given a Table PC Quick Reference book. It is excellent and Ive already picked up some hints in just a couple of chapters. One thing I did, as a result, was move the Taskbar to the top. This makes it easier to view the Start and other icons when using handwriting.

A disappointment to me is that it didnt come with any word processing or software installed other than the WordPad. I need to get Office XP before using the Tablet to its full potential. That will be remedied this week and then Ill really learn all the features.

So far Im not willing to give up my laptopbut I have a feeling that will change with time. More laterafter I install Office XP.
