WriteShield Review
By Chris De Herrera
Recently I got tired of seeing the ugly screen shield that was provided with my Acer. I contacted PPC Techs and received a WriteShield for the Acer TMC102i that I use every day. Before installing the WriteShield, I suggest that you find a place that is as dust/lint free as possible. Any dust or lint in the air may find it's way under the WriteShield as you install it. The installation process is a little more tedious due to the larger size screen that the Tablet PC uses.
Original Shield
The original screen shield had an adhesive strip around the edge of the screen and a corner cut off for removal after installation. I found that once it was installed, it made the screen very muddy or murky to view. Also, the adhesive was visible on the screen where it was mounted.

Native Screen
Here's some screen shots of the native screen as I was cleaning it with the provided wet then the dry cleaning cloth.
Here's the native screen with the
residue of the adhesive. I had to gently rub the screen to remove
this.

Here's the screen after I cleaned
the adhesive residue by gently rubbing it off the screen and cleaning it
with the WriteShield wet cleaning cloth.

Here's a closeup view of the WriteShield after installation. You can
see that it is installed between the bezel of the screen and the image on
the screen - it's edge is the white curve in the corner that looks round.

Here's a closeup of a piece of
dirt I didn't clean off the screen before positioning the WriteShield.
I easily removed the dirt by using scotch tape to lift the WriteShield and
another piece of tape to pull the dirt off the WriteShield. Keep in
mind that you do NOT want the tape to touch the screen - it may leave a
residue that that you have to clean with the wet cleaner.

WriteShields are Superior!
I have used other vendor's screen shields on my
Pocket PCs and my Acer. I prefer the WriteShield because of the way it
sticks to the screen. It does not leave any residue and the stickiness
makes the light in the screen come through without diminishing the
brightness or readability. I also found that the WriteShield did not
change the feel and function of the stylus on the screen. I would
highly recommend that all Tablet PC owners purchase a
WriteShield
from PPC Techs to
prevent scratches on their display.
