GBM How-To Series # 21 : Cleaning your Tablet/UMPC Screen

Does your tablet screen look like a dog has been trying to lick his way through it to get to the other side? Ever see the screen saver that was floating around from the movie Must Love Dogs? That gives you a mental picture huh? Well, from time to time that's exactly what mine can look like! It's not usually a big problem on laptop and non-touch tablets, but add the touch feature, or use it in a demo where you are constantly pointing to items on the screen, or to show off vacation photos, and you will find that they can get pretty dirty. Having two kids, lots of relatives and friends that like to "play" with them, mine can get really nasty. I took the X60, M200 and OQO Model 02 to the beach a few weeks ago. We had two babies, three or four college attendees, a bunch of parents, and a couple of grandparents (that were also Great Grandparents!)  Needless to say, everybody got time with cool toys. However, the combination of snacks, sun screen and lots of fingers made the keyboards and screens gross when they finally got home. (Source: Eddie VanDerbeck, GottaBeMobile.com)

Fujitsu LifeBook T4220 Tablet PC User Review

After about three months of waiting for the Santa Rosa platform and two months of searching, I finally decided on the Fujitsu T4220.  Unlike my experiences with the other two companies I was contemplating I received no shipping delays, and no double orders.  Fujitsu is a great company and it shows in the design and build of the T4220.

Tablets are Dandy, But Not For All

Prices have come down and more companies are producing them. Some are now aimed at consumers.

With that in mind, I tested three new models from Lenovo, Toshiba and Hewlett-Packard. I wanted to see if it was possible to use one of these Tablet PCs as an all-purpose computer.

All three come equipped with Windows Vista and offer the same tablet functionality. To use each computer as a tablet, you simply twist the screen 180 degrees and then fold it down over the keyboard. All of the computer's icons, menus and toolbars then automatically orient themselves to a vertical layout. (Source:

GottaBeMobile Hardware InkShow: The Gateway E295/C-140X Convertible Tablet PC

Gateway’s newest Convertible Notebook (Tablet PC), the E295 or C-140X, adds some heft to the Tabletscape. In many ways the E295/C-140X appears to be a refresh of the M280/CX200 but there are some fundamental differences. First and foremost, the active digitizer is made by Wacom as Gateway appears to have gone away from the FinePoint technology of the earlier model. That’s a good thing. In my testing the Inking experience is quite good. Second, what’s under the hood has been upgraded. There are several Intel Core 2 Duo processor options available ranging from the T5250 at 1.50GHz up to the T7700 at 2.40GHz. Third, you can configure your graphics option to use Intel GMA x3100 Graphics or an ATI Mobility Radeon X2300 card for those who want dedicated graphics. Gateway offers a range of choices and we all know choice is a great thing when it comes to Tablet PCs, or Convertible Notebooks for that matter.   (Source: Warner Crocker, GottaBeMobile.com)
